I have now been a self employed CAD Draughtsman for over ten years. Although it
was forced on me because of redundancy I thoroughly enjoy every minute of it.
The engineering background I have (see
my C.V.) gives me the insight to know exactly what is required as far as
drawings are concerned. I've developed an in depth understanding of Auto-Cad and
am now using 2009 version. I have just purchased Tekla Structures v15. This 3D modeling software
which will quicken up the production of detail Drawings. Tekla also produces material lists giving bolts, nuts and washers, steel
weights and surface areas.
Over the years I've built up a good customer base
mostly in the central belt of Scotland. (see client list)
I have worked on some notable contracts.
(see cad projects) These
include all the steelwork for the refurbishment of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery
in Glasgow and the canopy for the Royal Yacht Britannia's Barge. This is now a tourist
attraction at Leith Docks Edinburgh. (see downloads
for typical drawings) I also produced the layout drawings for the
Donald Dewar library room in the new Scottish Parliament Building along with all the
metal work which was required for the refurbishment of the John Knox Storytelling
Centre. This is the original site of the house John Knox stayed
while he demonstrated against Mary Queen of Scots. Although "Steelwork detailing"
is my forte I can turn my hand to almost anything such as house extensions,
timber kits, sheet metal work, Local Authority Planning Control and electrical layouts.
A new single stringer type of feature stair has recently been produced. Click
here for details. This web site contains sample details of cad projects,
my customers, my C.V., company profile,
hardware, software and F.A.Q'S. Also included is
a download section with sample drawings.
"Favourite links" have quite a few good technical
sites plus local house prices and a holiday hotel
"check it out site". The Cad Tips page have a few
cad tips and short cuts I've picked up over the years. I've just added a "how to
get cheaper car fuel" page. Anyway, thanks for visiting my web site and feel free to make any comments.. I've just bought two web site domain names one is www.tekla.org.uk and the other is www.3DCAD.org.uk either to use myself or to sell on.
